Not the most cheerful places to visit, but undeniably all pieces of history – a number of buildings ruined during the NATO bombing in 1999 have never been reconstructed and still stand as reminders of those events. The two most famous ones are both located along the street of Knez Milos. They are the former Yugoslav Ministry of Defense and the building of Ministry of International Affairs. While definitely not a pretty one the ruins are an ominous and powerful sight to behold – large buildings, windowless, dark and empty with staircases leading to nowhere and large gaps where the bomb struck still standing unfilled. While of course closed to the public, the buildings can still be seen from the outside just a short walk away from the main railway station up Nemanjina street.
